Many years ago, the Mohicans, the local Indian settlers of New Lebanon, and later, the Europeans, were drawn to the healing waters of this spring. The healing waters have been special by curing certain diseases like the skin disease that the british captain, James Hitchcock, suffered from, and was cured of that disease there.
